Ashburn: A Book Review

Note: this was supposed to go out 2 weeks ago, but my family was battling a stomach bug. Hence, the late post.

Over the past few months, I have had the honor to make new friends and get the opportunity to read the books they have written. Today, I will be reviewing Asburn, a mystery/action novel written by my dear friend Julia. (click on her name for a link to her blog.)

First, a little background: I don't remember how I came across Julia's blog. Needless to say, I have been a faithful follower over the years and can say with some confidence that we are friends. My parents bought jewelry for me at one of the GHEA conferences a few years ago, and I finally met Julia this past June at this year's conference. When she posted that "Ashburn" was being published, I immediately told her I wanted a copy, and she was sweet enough to send me a signed one.

I really enjoyed this book. There was just enough action and adventure to keep the pace going, but not so much that you were left in the dust. The characters are very well written and developed, with just the right amount of conflict.

Cara and Bryce lived in the same small town for years. Then one day, Bryce and his family left town with no explanation. Now, 10 years later, Bryce shows up at Cara's job as the new head of design research. Why is he avoiding all Cara's questions? What is Bryce hiding?

Bryce never thought he would be working so closely with Cara again. He wants to tell her everything - the reason why his family left so quickly, why he can't answer all her questions. But, to do so would go against regulations. Again and again, Bryce turns to God for strength as he trys to defeat a black-market arms dealer....and keep Cara's suspicions at bay.

"Ashburn" is available on Amazon. If you live close by and want to read it, let me know and I may be able to let you borrow it.
