Janette Oke Biography

Let me just say, I love the library. Our local branch is in the middle of rearranging the shelves and this forces me to explore and try to find the familiar among the unfamiliar. The downside- I spend a large chunk of time looking through trash trying find the pearl. The perks? When I find a new one to read, I am excited to the extreme (just ask my siblings). On our recent trip, I found one such pearl:
Janette Oke: A Heart for the Prairie

This was written by Janette Oke's only daughter. If you don't know who Janette Oke is, the Love Comes Softly movie series directed by Micheal Landon Jr. is based (somewhat loosely as the series progresses) off her books of the same title. She began writing after noticing that there was a lack of Christian fiction and out of a desire to share her faith with others. Her first book, Love Comes Softly, was published in 1979.

This book is truly a gem. It starts out with a little family background on both her paternal and maternal sides, and then commences to tell of her life growing up in the frontiers of Canada. Mrs. Oke's life has been one of continual adventure. She grew up in the middle of a large family of children (hey, kind of like me!), so life was never boring. This book kept me laughing and turning pages the whole way. It also made me cry...a few times. If you have never read this book, see if your local library/bookstore has a copy! You will not be sorry.

Katelyn

*On looking at the picture of the cover, I see that it is not written in English. Does anyone know which language it is? I sure don't!
