CMW Post the Third: The 2004 Movie version

Today I'll be posting on the 2004 Phantom movie. This was my first exposure to anything concerning Phantom and I loved it. I skipped some scenes, but other than that, it's a good movie. Minnie Driver put a comedic twist to Carlotta, which I thought was a fun touch. And I loved how it was shown as Raoul remembering the past.

Gerard Butler.....I used to think he was one of the best, but after hearing Ramin Karimloo and watching two separate Broadway productions, he just doesn't cut it anymore. He has a good voice, in a raspy way, but not the best for the Phantom. But he did a great job acting out the part.
Two-way mirror!

This was a great scene. Loved the dramatic music and entrance.

When I saw the stage musical, I asked my mom, "Where's the horse?"
Yeah......kinda embarassing

Emmy Rossum was a good Christine. Her portrayal was trying to forget her father and move on with life, while also having 2 suitors offering her happiness. But only one *cough, Raoul* really wants to help her escape and start a new life instead of living in a prison of music.

The Phantom's scene at the end of the song proved he was mad.
(I envy Christine's curls!)

"Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" was great. This is one of my favorite songs from the musical. I loved the mist among the tombstones. The duel was a great way to show how far Raoul was willing to go for Christine's freedom.
The happy couple

The Punjab lasso scene was the true test to see just how serious Raoul was. He passed with flying colors IMHO.

For the longest time, I was convinced this was the best adaption ever, but after seeing the Broadway musical, listening to the original cast and watching the 25th anniversary performance, I had to change my mind. It's not the worst, but not the best either.
Hope you enjoyed the little flyby. I'll do a longer post later of the 25th anniversary production on at The Royal Albert Hall.
