A Letter to Miss Jane Austen

In honor of the 200th anniversary of Pride and Prejudice on Monday,January 28 , Miss Elizabeth Bennett of Elegance of Fashion is hosting a blog party this week. And today the P&P 95 Forever Club is hosting a letter-writing contest. You have to write in the character of anyone who has a speaking role, Lady Catherine, Mr. Bennett, Jane, etc. This is my letter, in the voice of Mary, the middle sister. My mom helped me with the wording and getting Mary's character right.

                                                    Hertfordshire, England 

                                        February 1813

Dear Miss Austen,

    I have just recently read your latest publication, titled Pride and Prejudice. It was given to me as a present from my cousin, Mr.Collins, who, knowing I have read your earlier work, Sense and Sensibility, thought I might benefit from the morals therein. I enjoyed it immensely, especially the scenes involving music. As you know, I spend a considerable amount of time playing the pianoforte and am most willing to help others in their pursuit of it whenever possible. However, my deeds are not always seen as such. I look forward to meeting Ms. Georgiana Darcy in the near future. My sister Elizabeth tells me she is quite accomplished in the pianoforte.  
   I do hope that my sister Lydia's action will serve to caution any other young ladies who may consider following her example. The result of it is still felt in our household. Mama and Kitty lament over the way our father watches Kitty. But, as I tell her, Father only wishes to help Kitty avoid a similar fate.
   I did not wish to bore you with such somber thoughts. I desired only to thank you for the faithful narrative of our story you have shared with the world. You have done an admirable job and I will look forward to reading any future works you may publish.
